      Why is it that we are so obsessed with the apocalypse?  We seem to have the ability to envision the end of the world easily - the entertainment industry takes advantage of this and we now experience this theme in all areas of pop culture.

 

      Humans tend to view the world as a dystopian civilization - we see our world as a chaotic, unstable society in which we struggle to survive.  When we see apocalyptic themes in popular culture it gives us hope for a better future.  The apocalypse is about revelation, so when the world we live is coming to an end or ends, there is hope that a new society will bring change and a safer world - people want to feel like things could be better, making the apocalypse a popular theme.
