I      Televison and film are the most frequent and dramatic way we see the apocalyptic theme in popular culture.  We began to see apocalyptic themes appear in televison and film in the 1960's when Peter Watkins directed a film, The War Game, which showed a nuclear apocalypse.  This film, which was made to be aired on the BBC, was considered too graphic to be released on television out of fear people would panic and commit suicide.  Society was not desensitized like we are now and the film could only show 10 minutes of human suffering.

Apocalyptic tragidy has been one of the most popular themes in television and film for a long time.  Zombie apocalypse seems to be the most popular genre in the last decade.  The zombie theme has consistently shown a more optimistic outlook on humanity in which people must learn to trust each other and work together in order to survive.

Many of the television shows and films which have apocalyptic themes tend to show humanity trying to struggle in a greusome way. Seeking A Friend For the End of the World takes a different approach. This film gives the audience a more spiritual ending - it shows us that even after life has no meaning, we should end with what is most important - which is love.
